Covering Florida Navigators to Begin Their 10th Year of Helping Floridians Get Covered in the Affordable Care Act Marketplace

    FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

    Tampa FL
    November 1, 2022

Covering Florida, a statewide consortium of regional public health advocates, proudly announces our tenth year of providing free Navigator services for the Affordable Care Act (ACA) Marketplace Open Enrollment Period. The ACA Navigator program is funded by the federal government to provide one-on-one assistance to help healthcare consumers understand their options and apply for health insurance coverage through the marketplaces established under the ACA.

Our statewide toll-free consumer phone number is 877-813-9115.

Covering Florida’s Project Director, Jodi Ray, stated “Health insurance options can be complex, and the enrollment
process can be confusing, making our Navigator program essential in making sure everyone has the chance to get covered. With the continuing American Rescue Plan subsidies in 2023, it is worthwhile for Floridians to check to see how those marketplace subsidies might deliver better coverage and lower premiums than they have seen in recent years. Since we started our program in 2013, , however, even with a record number of almost 3 million enrollees during last year’s Open Enrollment, a significant number remain uninsured. A recent survey from the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that many consumers lack confidence to apply on their own or have a limited understanding of ACA requirements and benefits. We are here to help!”

Covering Florida has trained and certified Navigators who help consumers in all 67 counties to review the basics of health insurance, walk them through filling out the online application and explain how federal subsidies for premiums work. Unlike insurance agents and brokers, Covering Florida Navigators have no financial stake in the plans people select; the help that our Navigators provide is always free and unbiased. Attached is a list of our regional partners and the counties where consumers can get local help. We can provide interviews, further information and material for outreach, promotional flyers, social media graphics and online or in-person live event support.
