Today, the United States Centers for Medicare and Medicaid (CMS) released the results for the recently concluded ninth annual Affordable Care Act Marketplace Open Enrollment Period (OE9), and once again Florida has emerged as the state with most enrollees for the 10-week period. CMS showed that 2,723,094 Floridians either enrolled or re-enrolled in Marketplace plans, a significant increase over last year’s total of 2,120,350 during OE8.

Jodi Ray, the Project Manager for Florida Covering Kids and Families stated:

“The large increases of enrollees during OE9 once again prove the importance of the ACA Marketplace overall and in Florida in particular, coming as Floridians continued to deal with the impacts of the Covid-19 pandemic’s health and its related economic challenges. The American Rescue Plan Act subsidies lowered health care costs for most Marketplace consumers and certainly helped to increas enrollment to these records levels. Increased funding from the Federal Government this cycle allowed us to significantly increase both our number of trained Navigators as well giving us better ability to market and advertise our program’s importance and increase our outreach into areas which were underserved in recent years.”

Since the first year of Open Enrollment, Florida Covering Kids & Families at the University of South Florida has partnered with and managed the consortium of organizations collectively referred to as the “COVERING FLORIDA”, to provide Navigator services and outreach across the state of Florida. Covering Florida Navigators provide outreach and enrollment services free of charge to any Floridian looking to enroll for health care coverage in the Federal Health Insurance Marketplace. We assist consumers with telephone, in-person, and virtual online enrollment service and provide public education and outreach activities at locations throughout the state. Our Navigators are trained and able to help consumers as they look for health coverage options through the Marketplace, including completing eligibility and enrollment forms. Covering Florida Navigator services are free to consumers in all of Florida’s 67 counties, with confidential one-on-one customer service.

Florida residents who did not enroll by the deadline may now qualify for Special Enrollment for a 60-day period following specific” life changing” events such as marriage, birth of a child, death of a family member, a move to a new county and under certain economic factors.  Covering Florida Navigators remain available for free consultations year-round. Consumers who are unable to secure insurance through employment or other programs owe it to themselves and their families to #GetCovered and insure themselves against health related emergencies and developments.  Consumers can call or visit Covering Florida for a free appointment at 877- 813-9115 or www.CoveringFlorida.org
